History
While living in Texas, Mitch Finnegan experienced several open air markets which attracted thousands of people and promoted the talents of the area through vendors. From antique jewelry to clothing, vendors were able to sell their products at a reasonable price without the often times stifling expense of establishing a brick and mortar business.
In 1992, Mitch moved to Mankato where he met his wife Jie Chen. The couple started China Wind, a for-profit LLC corporation established to bring Eastern art to the Greater Mankato area. After exploring retail locations in the area, they found it challenging to sign a long-term lease in the early stage of business. It became apparent that similar retail businesses shared the same need to have an alternative or complementary outlet to sell their products beyond Internet and brick and mortar options. This realization led to the City Center Market idea; designed to attract visitors and residents to the Mankato City Center to experience the rich diversity of our community.
